About the MTCM

The Montessori Training Center of Minnesota (MTCM) was established in 1973 to train Montessori teachers at the primary (2 1/2 to 6 years old) level. We have since added an elementary (6 to 12 years old) training course as well as an assistants’ course. In 2008-2009 we offered an Assistants to Infancy course for birth to age 3. The MTCM’s student population is truly international, with students from around the world participating in our courses.

All of our courses are accredited by the Association Montessori Internationale, the organization founded by Dr. Maria Montessori. Association Montessori International of the United States (AMI/USA), a branch office of AMI, brings the principles of Maria Montessori to the education of children, to help them attain their full potential in our society. AMI/USA is located in Rochester, New York.

The Training Center is located at 1611 Ames Avenue in St. Paul, Minnesota. The Minneapolis-St. Paul area is well known for its long and enthusiastic support of the Montessori method. Today, there are more than 75 schools in Minnesota alone, ranging from preschool through junior high levels, creating a supportive educational environment and a fertile area in which to build your career. Several of Minnesota’s AMI accredited schools, including Cornerstone Montessori School are part of AMI-MN.

The MTCM is also a member of the North American Montessori Teachers’ Association (NAMTA). NAMTA provides a medium for study, interpretation, improvement and enhancement of Montessori education. These purposes are accomplished through a widespread communication system of periodicals, an audio-visual library, workshops and research. NAMTA endeavors to create real services designed for the teacher and the school.

The MTCM is accredited by the Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education (MACTE). MACTE is an autonomous international nonprofit accrediting agency for courses which prepare Montessori teachers.
