The Montessori Training Center of Minnesota (MTCM) was established in 1973 to train teachers in the Montessori method. Our programs are recognized internationally for their quality and rigor and are accredited by the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI), the organization founded by Dr. Maria Montessori. We are also accredited by the Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education (MACTE) and licensed by the Minnesota Office of Higher Education. We are one of just 14 AMI teacher-training institutions in the U.S. and one of 35 worldwide. Our training programs are attended by students from around the world.
You are invited to become a Montessori teacher. In our training courses, you will learn about the Montessori educational philosophy which focuses on developing the amazing powers each child has within herself to reach her full potential, and experience the role of the teacher in this developmental process. You will learn how to create the Montessori prepared environment, which enables the child’s natural development. This process of discovery- and your personal transformation- will be led by the experienced and internationally accredited staff of the MTCM. Further, you can apply your credits earned in the Primary and Elementary courses at the MTCM towards a Masters of Arts in Education. Contact MTCM for details.
Graduates from our Primary (ages 3-6) and Elementary (ages 6-12) training earn the Association Montessori Internationale diploma for their respective age level to be a lead guide (teacher). This is not the equivalent of a Minnesota state teaching license and is not valid in the public schools; however, with 90 private Montessori schools in the Twin Cities area and thousands in the United States, graduates have a wide range of opportunities when they leave training. This diploma is also valid around the world, allowing the gradate many job opportunties, and does not expire. MTCM works with graudates on employment after graduation. While it can’t be guaranteed, graduates our last several courses have been able to secure jobs post-graduation. The diploma also offers opportunities to work as an assistant, aide or in an administrative position.
