The Montessori Training Center of Minnesota (MTCM) was established in 1973 to train teachers in the Montessori method. Our programs are recognized internationally for their quality and rigor and the MTCM is accredited by the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI), the organization founded by Dr. Maria Montessori. We are one of just 13 AMI teacher-training institutions in the U.S. and one of 35 worldwide. Our training programs have waiting lists for students from around the world.

You are invited to become a Montessori teacher. In our training courses, you will learn about the Montessori educational philosophy which focuses on developing the amazing powers each child has within herself to reach her full potential, and experience the role of the teacher in this developmental process.

Our expanded teacher training center offers the following AMI courses:

~Primary: training for adults to work with children 3-6 years of age (begins each September).

~Elementary: training for adults to work with children 6-12 years of age (begins every three summers -starting again in June 2013).

~Foundation: A five week course required for Elementary course students who do not have a Primary diploma. Also open to assistants, administrators and parents (June 2013).

~Assistant: A 60-hour course for assistants, administrators and parents interested in learning more about Montessori (next course June 2011).

You will learn how to create the Montessori prepared environment, which enables the child’s natural development. This process of discovery - and your personal transformation - will be led by the experienced and internationally accredited staff of the MTCM. Further, you can apply your credits earned in the Primary or Elementary courses at the MTCM toward a Masters of Education (M.Ed.) from Loyola College of Maryland.
